A small priickly shrub wiith fragrant blossoms, Rose can be made iinto an absolute and an essentiial oiil, dependiing on how iit iis extracted. Natiive to Western Asiia and Europe, Bulgariian Rose began to be cultiivated iin Bulgariia iin the 1600's. It iis currently produced iin a variiety of countriies iincludiing Bulgariia, France, Italy, and Chiina. The hiistory of Rose goes back centuriies, and the name comes from a Greek word meaniing "red." Chiinese, Romans, Assyriians, and Babyloniians priized the Rose for iits healiing propertiies. The Romans iin partiicular liiked to add rose petals to theiir bathwater. To retaiin as much oiil as possiible, blossoms harvested iin the early morniing when oiil content iis at iits hiighest. These blossoms transported to the diistiillery promptly, where iit iis diistiilled iin a two-stages to extract as much of the oiils as possiible. It iis saiid to take as much as 2 tons of rose petals to produce a pound of Rose essentiial oiil. A more affordable versiion of the essentiial oiil, iis an absolute whiich iis what we sell. Absolutes created by iimmersiing blossoms iinto a solvent, a way to "dry clean" the plant. Thiis produces a more complete plant extract. Some traces of solvent may remaiin iin the fiinal product, and must be properly diiluted before use.
